We’re looking for a detail‑focused and analytical Managing Agent Assurance Officer to join our Service Charge & Specialist Leasehold Services team.
Reporting to the Managing Agent Administration Manager, you’ll play a key role in providing independent assurance, challenge and resident advocacy across Southern Housing’s managed agent portfolio. You’ll review service charge expenditure, assess compliance with lease and statutory requirements, and help ensure costs recharged to residents are accurate, reasonable and fully supported by evidence.
Working closely with Managing Agent Relationship Managers, Service Charge teams, Specialist Leasehold Services and Legal Services, you’ll investigate complex service charge issues, support dispute resolution and contribute to tribunal proceedings where required. Through effective scrutiny, evidence management and stakeholder engagement, you’ll help protect service charge recoverability, reduce organisational risk and improve confidence in managing agent costs.
You’ll be based at one of our main offices in Farringdon, Croydon or Sittingbourne, with the option for hybrid working where appropriate and agreed with your manager.
About you
We’re looking for someone who is analytical, inquisitive and confident challenging information, and enjoys investigating complex issues, reviewing evidence and working collaboratively to achieve fair outcomes for residents.
You’ll bring:
• Significant experience in service charges, leasehold management, property management or a related technical discipline
• A strong understanding of residential service charges, lease obligations and recoverability principles
• Knowledge of Sections 19, 20 and 20B of the Landlord and Tenant Act 1985
• Experience reviewing financial information, supporting documentation and service charge evidence, and resolving complex disputes or escalations
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex information and findings clearly
• Strong analytical skills and the ability to identify risks, inconsistencies and opportunities for improvement
• The ability to manage multiple priorities, competing deadlines and complex casework
• Confidence working with internal teams, managing agents, solicitors and other external partners
• Educated to A‑Level standard (or equivalent professional experience) with the ability to operate within a specialist technical service charge environment
• Committed to promoting accountability, challenge and best practice across service charge management
About the team
You’ll be part of our Service Charge team, which is responsible for delivering accurate, transparent and compliant service charges for our residents and leaseholders.
The team works closely with colleagues across Finance, Housing and Property Services to ensure service charges are calculated correctly, communicated clearly and supported by accurate data. By maintaining high standards and a customer focused approach, the team plays a vital role in building trust and supporting positive customer experiences.
